Re: smoke at 2 - 2.5 rpm
I have a 54 plate megane estate with about 120,000 miles on the clock. It smokes so bad that I have people overtake me and then stop me to tell me I've got a problem. If I accelerate hard, I expect a cloud of black smoke; but this is just trundling along at 2-3 thousand revs, and the smoke lasts for up to a mile!!!!
To get it through the smoke test on the MOT I have to thrash it all the way to the garage, kicking out soot everywhere. I've tried the fuel additives, absolutely useless. Someone informed me that the injectors need looking at at this mileage. What does that mean? Taking them out and dipping in cleaning solution, changing parts, replacing them,...I have no idea!
Anyone managed to solve this problem?

rossioni
I have always used Millers fuel treatment and had very good results from it over the years https://www.milleroils.co.uk/
Stick to decent Diesel fuel Shell, Total, BP etc... (not supermarket stuff)
All Diesels (except those with particulate filters) produce some visible smoke on acceleration but it should not be thick black smoke
I would start by checking the condition of your air filter, if it's clogged up and filthy put a new one in, possibly give it a an oil/filter change as well. Your EGR valve might be sooted up so look at getting this cleaned (there are pics on how to do this on the FAQ section I think)

After 120K it would be worth getting your injectors checked/reconditioned. Take it to a Diesel specialist but be prepared as recon injectors are not cheap

Having thought about this a bit more, you might also want to get your Mass Airflow sensor checked as well
