Alloys flaking/corroding.

Anyone else finding the Megane alloys very poor quality. I've had my 5 year old model from new, and specified the optional 17'' alloys. Despite regularly cleaning them with proper alloy wheel cleaner they are looking awful - large areas have turned a brown colour with no sign of the silver alloy coating. Checked with my dealer but, of course they do not come under the 12 year corrosion warranty. I've had 2 lagunas before this until they were 7 years old and the alloys were like new ??

mine look like a rat has been nibbling the edge of them (and also a bit flakey- i only use the normal turtlewax car shampoo tho)...will probably get them repaired but will wait till i need the tyre replacing

Do you guys jet wash them first or just start cleaning them from dry?

most of the reason they stain is because you rub the dirty into the wheel from dry and also dont use any other products apart from the car shampoo.

I always hose or jet wash them first. It's not staining - it's the actual paint flaking off .

What type of wheel cleaner do you use and how often do you use it? I hear that most of them are acid based, and leaving the product on the wheel for any longer than stated on the instructions is not good - it is literally stripping the lacquer off and consequently the paint too

Just the autoglym stuff. Is there a better one to use in future ?

I kerbed one of my wheels trying to avoid a dustbin wagon. I didn't have any witnesses so the council wouldn't pay for a respray. Is there a touch up paint stick which matches the colour of these wheels?

ive used the auto glym stuff befor and thought it was a bit harsh to the point it was burning my hands a bit id have a look at

its acid free so wont eat into your wheels mine are 3 yrs old and still fine
