Rattling noise when moving Gear lever

Hi Folks,

I’m hearing a strange noise whilst moving the gear lever when the car is stationery and the engine is off.

When moving the gear lever into gear with either the clutch in or out it sounds like it’s banging up against something metal under the car.

Sounds a bit like linkage hitting the exhaust shield.

Could this be what it is?

Just thought I might mention, I've just tried it again and it's not making the noise this time.

Just because I'ts not doing it now doesn't mean the problem has gone away! so Im still asking for any advice.

It's a 5 speed box on a 1.6VVT

I'm curios to know what it could be that gave that sound?

When you put it in gear, the sound coming from outside the car kind of reminds me of someone closing a metal filing cabinet drawer but with a "boing" sound .

Did it twice and then went away when I tried it later.

Any pointers please?

you need to replace your gear box!!







only joking!! lol im not sure, but if ue cars still under warranty, then take it back! if not then im not sure...could just be nothin...

yea i get this sounds like a tinny sound but aint got a clue what it is

maybe it's one of the locking pins (or whatever they are called) that hold the gear level in place when you are in gear...on mine you can't pull the lever out unless the clutch is in as these pins stop it.....or.....you've run over a cat and it's still stuck under your car
