Re: TDC/Dephaser/Cutting Out - 1.6VVT
Hey, i've been having dephaser problems also... bought an 03 megane and twi days later began a grinding noise on start up, almost sounded like a diesel engine. took it back to the garage who told me they'd used wrong oil, so changed oil and filters and cleaned throttle housing, however still had same noise two days later. thanks to some guys here kenforee i think and andyb they helped to identify the problem. took it back to garage to tell them i wasn't happy and was taking it to a renault specialist. My local renault dealer wanted to charge me for a service and diagnostic but this wouldn't show the problem, plus a charge of over 200 quid!! Took it to an independent renault specialist who charged 40 for diagnostics and checked the car, its being repaired tonite as it is dephaser thats buggered... this forum has really helped as i like the look and drive of the megane so wanna keep it if i can. Sad to say though renault dealers semm the most unhelpful of all garages i have been to, worse than vauxhall and i had a very bad time with them involving trading standards. I would advice anyone to use this forum for help everyone seems to be great at helping other megane owners, and to get quotes or work done at independent renault garages not main dealers if your warranty is out...

Please make sure it has 505 in the end of its part number -- all others fail in no time.

Re: TDC/Dephaser/Cutting Out - 1.6VVT
hey alex & andy,
got my car back and it drives like its brand new, much better drive and performance and a smooth start!! Firstly i'll tell you whats been done and the costs
Cam shaft sensor, dephaser pulley, cam belt kit and aux belt, all were new and the total cost including fit was £480.58!! But i'm getting £350 back from where i bought the car as the cam belt isn't covered in the warranty, much better price than my local dealer, the garage also jet washed the car...
I can also confirm that the dephaser part number ends in 505!! So now i can really say "i see you shaking that ass" ha ha

SIT-REP.......
Well, after Renault told me my Dephaser 'may' be worn, and having the TDC replaced and the Computer reprogrammed, ALL IS WELL!!!!!! me thinks Renault needed some cash! - they arn't getting it, as so far my dephaser is fine. (touching plank of wood)
My megane is driving like never before. Quicker, quieter, more fuel efficient (34mpg in town, 48mpg on the motorway) and more enjoyable!!!!

My Megane heals itself!
Fingers crossed.
Come on Renault - build your cars as well as you design them.

A little bird told me that there is a yellow tag on Megane 1.6V cars (recall ref. 4747E). This means that if your dephaser pulley fails outwith warranty, Renault should consider some kind of 'goodwill' gesture. Worth mentioning.

they might consider it, but won't do anything about it unless....
- youve owned the car for many years (and owned it whist warranty was still active)
- It's not that long out of warranty
- it's been taken to the main dealer for servicing (fully stamped up - renault parts only)
- The history is well known to them
- you get the diagnosis and dephaser work done at main dealer.
- your very persistent and prepared to go to trading standards etc.
if youve bought it recently and don't use main dealers then no chance.
