If its a petrol engine, you might have a pencil coil or a spark plug starting to fail. Have you noticed any misfiring or back firing? The TDC sensor might be another cause of this problem.

No back firing as yet seems to travel along well, I spoke with an independent renault garage( former renault mechanic i think) today who said to put fuel cleaner in the tank and that should do the trick so far so good. It was refreshing to get advice from a garage he could have charged or done anything and i would be none the wiser . Prior to this chat i called the local Liverpool renault dealer who as normal took a huge in take of breath said it sounds serious and i should pay for a full check however i will have to wait for a week for someone to look at it.

Sorry it is a diesel as in my last post the cleaner took the light off and the service indicator.
