Starting problems and toxic warning light

Postby Busy_Man » Mon Jul 28, 2008 7:19 am

Guy's,

I know there are lots of posts about this, but my symptoms seem slightly different.

Since I brought the car, 1.6 meg tourer its struggled starting from cold and usually stalls unless I give it a few revs. When starting sounds rough as hell, but then settles after a second of reving.

It's booked in the garage under warranty, and had no other faults till Friday night. Was taking a mate home and the toxic fumes and service lights came on, car was running absolutely fine so don't think it's a coil gone as I would have expected it to run rough on 3 cylinders. The only new symptom that came with the lights was a lack of power when going up hill, but not a massive loss. Then this morning, went to the garage to pick up a couple of drinks for work, got back in the car and the lights turned themselves off.

I'm going to tell the garage when I drop her off later on, but wondered if this is TDC/Coils/Dephaser related?

Cheers

Rob

Garage have said cam shaft sensor failed (I assume this is the TDC), which worrys me slightly as the light only came on this weekend. If they have only plugged into diagnostics then this is all they will see right?

I'll find out when I pick it up, if it still sounds like a bag of spanners I will be leaving it with them again and demanding the vx 220 turbo as a courtesy car!

Ok, picked car up last night and all seemed to be ok, but the engine was warm so couldn't be 100% sure they had solved the starting problem.

This morning started up, engine sounded poor still. Didn't stall but hunted for revs and was very lumpy for the first 5 mintues. Is this the pulley failing? Will I be best taking it to renault (car went to Vauxhall dealer as this is where I brought it from)? It's covered by a warranty so have no issues with the cost, as it's not my problem!

Thanks
