Hi Guys/girls
Ive got a whirring sound coming from the rear wheels and after alot of searching ive come to conclusion that the wheel bearings are shot. Or should i say my brake disks are shot (bearings built into disks).
Im going on holiday on Saturday so they have to be changed by then. So im going to do them myself
I have searched the forum top to bottom & i can't seem to find anything on changing them.
So has anyone got any idea or info on how they are changed? Any help at all would be gratefully accepted.

It is simple. Remove the calliper, remove the hub nut, remove the disc... The drawings and the torque values are in the repair manual (PDF documents) -- see my message in Links. You will need two new discs (they come complete with bearings and ABS rings), new hub nuts and new pads. Hub nuts require a special deep socket, a breaker bar and a high torque torque-wrench. Pistons must be wound back by using a special tool (right-hand thread) or one can do it by combining a spanner with a short bar, which might require skill and strength. Finally, if you decide to install performance pads (EBC GreenStuff), then you will need to replace the front pads as well due to a higher friction coefficient. I thought it was that easy, but ive never done a disk with the bearing combined.
On the hub nuts.... what do you know what size deep socket is needed ? and any idea if i need to grease the bearings/hub up before i replace?

I'll check the socket size. The nuts are bought from the dealer -- they are cheap.
No greasing is needed -- the bearings are sealed. No special tools are required for removal/installation. Apply some grease to the bearing and seal seats, just to prevent corrosion. Clean the ABS sensor. Keep a wire brush and some anti-corrosion paint (Hammerite or similar) at hand.

It is a 30mm deep socket with 1/2'' square drive, CrV. Mine is made by Draper and was sold as a hub nut socket. I am not sure if a standard deep socket would fit due to its external diameter.
I used as 600mm 1/2'' CrV bar in order to undo the nut. Anything shorter will be insufficient (I mean it!). You will also need a suitable extension bar. Everything should be made of CrV steel.
