New 2nd hand Megane remote

Postby cyclonebri1 » Mon Jul 14, 2008 7:54 am

Hi Guys,
I know this must have been asked a few times before but I can't find the answer at the mo. Daughter has smashed one of the two remotes for her 2004 Megane, is it possible to buy a 2nd hand one and have it programmed or some advertise reprogramming instructions????

Whats the possibility here as I'm sure I read somewhere that the fobs are not "rewritable" so only a new fob can be programmed???? :hug

Thanks in advance,
Bri,

your right...you can't reprogram an existing key, so buying from ebay/scrappers is not an option see

The only way is to buy a new key from renault dealer (requires V5 doucment), takes a week and £170 (includes reprogramming the key/car)

Thanks, just seen the other post and added to that, also just phoned a specialist auto locksmith who I now supplies duplicate keys to the trade.
Definate "no we cant" from there.

Should it be possible to drive the car with a dead fob? Access easy via passenger side but alarm sounds and engine wont turn. I thought the chip in the fob which is not battry powered would overide the immobiliser???? :cry :cry

Parting with £170 would be against my religion :devil

When I bought my Sporty there was only one remote with the car, so I ordered a new one from Hardings in Hemel Hempsted. Cost was £80 inc vat, programming included. Even if you add £40/hr labour that some might charge to programme the remote, still less than the £170 your quoting. Might be worth shopping around.

Yes, the price is what I've read so we'll have to see. While I'm here and seeing as I started the thread, I notice you have exactly the same car, inc colour as me. After big problems with a crappy main agent the car has been perfect for the last year and I am well pleased. Can I just ask what is the best and worst fuel consumption you get? On a regular 50 mile round journey of some motorway/some rural driving best I can get is 65mpg overall and 70 one way. Worst local short tripping is about 43 with a probable monthly average of 55ish, but this is driving very steadily.

Yours better or worse?

I have had the car since 13thJune (yes it was a Friday) so a little over a month. In the first 2 weeks I depeloped a diesel leak at the injectors which threw the figures out a bit, with the worst recorded @ 48ish, so I am only just doing my first brim to brim since getting that fixed. On a daily 36 mile round trip the computer is showing that the average is 51mpg, which is on a mix of town and fast A roads plus the usual traffic snarls on the way home which adds 15-20mins to my journey time. I must admit I've not really given the right foot a rest as yet as the A10 & A414 are pretty empty in the mornings. One day I may learn to drive responsibly....

Despite the early problem, fixed under waruntee, I love the car, does what it says on the tin.

Be aware that this fix is well known as 106 cars of 2005/6 had faulty diesel return pipes. The car should have had the pipes changed for the correct items, and the starter motor solenoid changed as fuel leaking in there will cause premature failure. All known Renny problems
