Power loss at 30/40 mph - '56 plate Sport Tourer 1.9dci

Postby ghiggsy » Wed Jul 02, 2008 11:57 am

My car is currently at my local Renault garage where they are trying to replicate a problem I am having with loss of power. It is an intermittent problem that generally happens at 30/40 mph. I radomly lose power (no warning lights) and have to drop down a gear (sometimes 2) to "kick" it back into action! It also tends to happen on warm sunny days!

The dealership have had nothing show up on the diagnostics and despite it being driven quite a bit by them, they cannot replicate the issue. I have had a look at other threads on here and most issues seem to be from start up, which is not the case for me.

I absolutely love my car, so any inspiration anyone can give me on this one to assist my local dealer (who seems to go against the grain for Renault dealerships as have always been a pleasure to deal with!) would be hugely appreciated!

Start with the end switch on the brake pedal.

Thanks AlexB, I have found a couple of threads now I have had a chance to scan properly and looks like this is not an uncommon fault, and that Renalt don't seem to get to the bottom of it! I will contact the garage tomorrow and see if they have checked the end switch on the brake pedal....I will report back!!!

In case anyone is interested....the garage have now managed to replicate the fault, however did not show up on the computer, so not sure what is causing it. The mechanic who has been working on the car has been great, and hopefully between me keeping a log of when it happens (speed, gear and conditions) and them being happy to persevere to fix the fault we will have a happy outcome....otherwise looks like a new car may be in order!!!!

So no real resolution, however, have a dealer that is still interested in sorting the problem, which is a bonus!

ghiggsy - I'm having a similar problem with mine, although mine happens at double the speed your fault happens. Its got its 4th visit to Renault this week - each time so far the fault cant be recreated and nothing shows on a diagnostic. One of the technicians (mechanics?!) thinks it may be a mechanical fault as opposed to an electrical fault (thats wht I've been trying to tell 'em!). He thinks it may be a blocked fuel filter of some degree. Keep me posted and vice versa!
