Hi to all, I'm a new member to this site and a new member of the.. what seems to be "fantastic" french car ownership with my megane.
Basically the original seat had a tear in it and I was lucky enough to find the same style seat in mint condition at a breakers, so as one would, I bought the seat and have just changed it over. to do this i needed to unplug the connector under the seat to plug in the new. Once all of this was done and i turned the car on , both the service and airbag light were lit. Bummer!!
Any ideas?? I've tried a search on the forum with not a lot of joy.
Shall I just visit my local dealer and get them to sort it out or can some kind person give me an alternative soultion.
I have a 1.5dci dynamique tourer 54 reg
merci

Re: service and airbag light on after changing seat?
The wire under the seat is for the airbag warning light. Various posts on this in the forum. So somewhere there is a problem with that wire or the connection. Presuming if disconnected it doesn't need re-setting but sure someone will confirm that. I'd have a closer look at the wire. Give it the magic wiggle that should do it

Re: service and airbag light on after changing seat?
thanks for the suggestion. I worked it out eventually. Once the replacement seat was fitted and connected and the lights came on I then noticed that the seat belt plug was lower than the original and as the replacement seat was from a breakers I thought that maybe it just came from a meg without any armrest,?!? but.... realised when taking it apart to check it all over again, that because this seat had previously been involved in an accident (hence being at a breakers) it had activated some sort of retraction device on impact thus lowering the seat belt plug by a few inches and making the service/airbag light come on as the car could detect that it was in need of replacement .
Replacing it was no problem as I just swapped it over with the one from the original seat.

Re: service and airbag light on after changing seat?
yep, good job, mate....
last week I had this the first time....wifey moving the passenger seat forward and airbag light going on.....so I unplugged the contact, but some wd-40 like electronics spray on it and it seems to be ok. I have fixed the plug to the seat with some cable tiers ....is that the right name? I mean these:

Can't see the picture but yeah they will be cable ties. Little plastic straps which tighten on a small ratchet system but will not loosen. Saved yourself some money Terry, at Renault they would of been about £5 each plus vat and prob 30 mins labour to fit them
