Handsfree doesn't work on driver's side.

Postby Erik Olijnsma » Mon Jun 02, 2008 8:27 pm

Hey all,

First serious problem I am dealing with is that my Handsfree function doesnt work on the driver's side.
I heard it could be the black sensors, but I doubt it now. Since the doors don't lock with the button either. And the sensor is only for recognizing the hand in the handle.
I tried it on the other side and it works there. You can lock the door without having the hand in the handle.

Is there somewhere in the dash where the sensor wires come together by a fuse or something, maybe a weak connection in on of the connectors?

Somebody experiencing this problem and knows a solution?

What is that letter to trading standards about?

Does it apply to in The Netherlands aswell? Or is it just UK.

I brought the car and the hands free failed, but the dealer didnt want to repair it under warranty (said the warranty only covered engine & gearbox), so I ended up going to trading standards about it, and they said it should be covered under warranty.

It is a common fault and according to the dealer (who had to phone Renault about it  ), it is usally caused by water getting in the sensors/door handles from jet washing cars, but they couldnt prove that this had not been done (by them or the previous owner) so they are having to do it.

should be getting the car back tonight, so will let you know what they say
