At the end of february i purchased a renault megane 1.4 3 door hatch from local renault dealer. The car is a 2004 on a 04 plate and has 23k on the clock. with the purchase i got a years tax, 12 months MOT, full service and 12 months warranty.
I have had the car now for 2 months and it is very hard to get into 1st gear and it grinds into reverse. Also when at standstill the car seems like it is juddering and i can really notice it. Its like someone is giving it a very gentle bounce.
I am gonna ring renault on monday to book it in.where do i stand with regards to getting the work done at no cost to me, and what can i ask for regarding the gears (i doubt i could ask for a new gear box)
And what could be causing the juddering?

Re: Car judder and hard to get into gear
hi
with the car being with you for only a couple of months your in a good chance of goodwill gestures...it needs to be fit for purpose legally for 6months after purchase, and you could argue it isnt, and 2 months is a little short for wear and tear, which this doesnt sound like at 23000m with FSH
i would challenge on this basis, and the cars age and mileage etc... They should really sort it out for you. i would take it back down to them, the warranty should cover some of it anyway- read the smallprint just to see.
when did it start doing this?

My 1.4 also judders when idling. I think its common to all of them and not something to worry about too much.
But it might be linked to your gear selection problem - maybe gearbox mountings are loose?

Re: Car judder and hard to get into gear
Hi.
Regarding the gearbox problem, I think that changing the gearbox oil (tell them to use tranself TRJ 75W80) will make a big difference. But if the reverse gear problem persists, try selecting 3rd gear before putting it into reverse. This trick always works...
As for the juddering, if the engine performs ok, and you haven't seen any warning messages on the dashboard, then cleaning the throttle body might help a bit. But I'm afraid that you'll have to live with it – that is to say, 1.4 juddering – rattling is common.

If it "grinds into reverse", then check the clutch.

hi ioannis
is the gearbox oil changed at the 36000m service which my car is coming up to?

Hi keeforelli
No it's not, according to the service manual. In fact my technician told me the other day that you normally never change it during the lifetime of the car. Of course if you have your clutch replaced, for example, you can't avoid changing the gearbox oil.
Nothing lasts forever – if you asked me…
