megane hatch 1.4 questions
Hi guys. I am new to the site so firstly i would like to say hello. i recently bought a megane sport hatch 1.4 and would just like some advice. Firstly is it normal for the car to be at 4000revs at 70mph? it even sits at about 5000 revs at between 80-90mph. To me it seems a little high, but as its only a 1400cc perhaps its normal. Also the car has a tapping sound coming from the engine. its not really loud, but enough for me to notice - any ideas. any advice is much appreciated

Re: megane hatch 1.4 questions
hi!!
congrats on you purchase!!!....i have the 1.4 too, and they are pretty low geared as the engine produces most of its power above 3500rpm, so at 70 mph it does rev at just below 4000rpm...however it is pretty quiet...so nothing to worry about...as for the tappet sound, on mine there is a light tappet sound which you can only hear at idle with a window open...but something else similar and peculiar to this engine is that if you rev and let off the accelerator in a low gear you get a tappet sound coming through into the cabin- is that what you hear?....i think with the megane they are generally very quiet so you are very aware of any extra noises...are you finding the car ok?

Re: megane hatch 1.4 questions
Welcome to the forum.
I have a tappet rattle from my 1.4 which is most noticeable when changing gear or when decellerating through 3,100rpm to 3,000rpm. The Renault tech at my local garage was reluctant to start taking the engine apart until the fuel consumption and performance had deteriorated. Needless to say, I bet they become 'concerned' once my warranty has run out in December.

Re: megane hatch 1.4 questions
there's a stickied fuel consumption thread in this section...
Re: megane hatch 1.4 questions
...i see that was just looking for the opinions of the other 1.4 owners who may not be watching that thread

Re: megane hatch 1.4 questions
I get around 36mpg at an average speed of 23mph doing short journeys in built up areas if the trip computer is to believed. The best I've had is 40.5mpg on a long journey using motorways. You could check with your Renault dealer to see if you have the most recent software running the engine.

cool will do, anyone had this done? what does it cost if it needs done?
Re: megane hatch 1.4 questions
I had my software upgrade as part of the first service when the car was 12 months old. That was Dec 2006 and I don't think there was any additional cost on top of the normal service charge.
