Does this pipe look correct, and how to request?

Postby kenny1001 » Mon Apr 14, 2008 1:53 pm

Can anybody supply instructions on how to clean the EGR valve with pictures if possible as i am not particulally mechanically minded and find it easier with pictures, i will be cleaning it on a 2003 1.6 if this makes a difference.

Does anybody also know how easy it is to replace a temperature sensor and have instructions?

Also finally i noticed the other day after my car came back from the dealership to have the dephaser pulley replaced that it looks like one of the engine pipes has been melted to seal it, does this look correct or do you think they have bodged it and is it worth me replacing it?

Please help, i am having running problems and am hoping to fix it myself as it has already cost me £800 to have the dephaser pulley replaced and a new cam belt and it is now hesitant when first started and idles lumpy on occassions.

EGR valve cleaning don't bother..

Why do you want to replace the Temp sensor?

Are the symptoms the same as before the pulley was replaced?
I would try and clean the inside of the throttle body.. Remove the inlet pipe that you have photographed. Put some carb cleaner on a rag, Push open the throttle butterfly and clean the plenum and the butterfly edges.. poor idle can also be attributed to oil build there, as the body is motorised and calibrated to allow the correct idle speed. Any muck will reduce the bypass airflow and therefore poor idle..

The pipe that has been "bodged" is the inlet resonator tube.. If the tech has broken it when it was removed to do the dephaser then it should be replaced FOC by the garage. Go and fight your corner.
