I was driving my Megane 1.9dci last week, just going along at a steady 60mph when the following happened:
1) The audible alarm sounded
2) 'steering fault' was displayed on the dash
3) 'Stop' lamp illuminated
At this time I completely lost the power steering and had a real struggling maneuvering the car. I was really lucky that I was going along a straight bit of road I don't want to think about what could have happened if I was going round a corner or going for an overtake. I pulled over and stopped and started the car which cleared the fault. I continued my onward journey and the problem has not come back. I'm really concerned about this incident and am interested if this has happened to anybody else on the forum and possible causes?

Re: A scare on the way home
I'm not sure if there weren't some recalls for this, do a search and see if anything comes up, if not nip in to your local dealer and ask them to check against your VIN.
Edit: You'd be better posting this in the ownership problems section too.
