It's not unknown for the light and indicator connectors to fail, hopefully someone who has suffered this fault will post some advice.

Driver side front indicator blew. I replaced the bulb. The new bulb didn't work. I then tried to replace the bulb, but I couldn't remove the bulb holder. I can turn the bulbholder in an anticlockwise direction, but I can not remove the bulbholder. I removed the front wheel to get better access but still no success. Any advice much appreciated.

Bumper off is a 30 min job, I'd remove it and the headlight to gain direct access (and visual!) to the bulbholder.

The light bulb socket had to be replaced. It cost about €60 (part and labour) at a renault dealership.

Hi, I know you have sorted this now but for anyone else, I had a similar problem (drivers side indictator not working, replaced bulb still didn't work, tested bulbs - they were fine). Eventually got around to removing bumper (and breaking all the clips at the top in the process) and found that the indicator housing did not want to unscrew. after finally getting it out, carefully put it back in and all worked fine. it seems that when I repleaced it via the wheel arch, I didn't put it in right. this does not explain why it stopped working in the first place but is worth a try for anyone having the same problem.

It is fiddly, but doable without removing the bumper. Once removed, cut of about 5mm of plastic from the "tail" of the holder and lubricate the mating surfaces with WD40. In 1.9dci it is only possible on the driver's side...

These days I just remove the bumper when servicing the car and replace all the bulbs except the full beam and fogs, which are used very little comparing to the others.

Almost 2 years on and I have the same problem again. This time it's the front indicator bulb on the passenger side. The bulb seems to have become loose in the housing and is only working intermittently. I have tried to adjust bulb but it won't work. I have tried to remove the bulb but can't. Any suggestions? (I don't want to fork out 60 quid again to repair it).

These cars seem to be designed to have the bumper removed and the bulbs changed every time you service them. it is the only way to reduce the probability of failure between the services. furthermore, only the dipped light bulbs are easily accessible from under the wings. Bumper removal-refitting is a quick and simple job, about half an hour.

Hi
Has anyone solved this issue with the indictors?
My 2004 1.9dci was only faulty on the drivers side, now after a long trip today the passenger side has become faulty as well. Now no one can see which way we want to turn fromhead on, not good for my wife when taking the 3 month old baby out in the megane!
I have changed the bulb before and it has been 'fixed' by different garages, including a renault specialist and still no luck.

I have fixed mine (for now!) today.
Both front wheels off and put new bulbs in, cleaned the contacts and put a bit of vasaline on them then put the holders back in and they worked. They have been working for a few hours now as we went out on the motorway and used them a lot overtaing etc.
I called in to Halfords this morning to have a look at the bulbs that they had. I noticed that they had some 581HD bulbs for 4x4, trailers etc which are Heavy Duty. They were £5.49 for a pair so got those as they have a filament support and are better for anti vibration. They are working now and I have marked down pn the calender when I changed them and will see how long these continue to work for.

Both indicators are still working properly with these new bulbs in.
Last time they were 'fixed' at a garage they broke again within a few days.
