reverse gear selection problem

Afternoon all. I have snapped the cable linking the reverse trigger to the gear selection process on the wifes 1.4 Megane liberte. It is a 1998 T reg. Can anyone advise how easy to replace/repair etc. Cheaper and easier to book into a dealer ? I am relatively mechanically minded but limited tools are available. I cannot find anything in the search.
