Headlights- any ideas before I get ripped off?

Postby Kryton's Owner » Thu Jan 10, 2008 8:12 pm

Hey all,

I've just joined the club in the hope that I can dip into someone's pot of knowledge if that's ok? I'm hoping some kind soul will be able to stop me before I get ripped off...

Last week my left indicator decided to retire, shortly followed by my left headlight. Oh, and then good ol' right headlight decided he didn't wanna be left out and so gave up his night job...
So, to sum up, I now have two headlights and one indicator not working. Checked the indicator, it looks like lose wiring as the bulb is fine. Can't get into the headlamps, seems i either have to adopt teeny tiny strong hands or take loads of covering off to get in there.

I'm female so forgive me for being slightly blinded by the science of mechanics, has anyone got any thoughts on this? Does this sound like an elecrtical fault as I think it's too coincidental to have all go around the same time. This is my first renault so I'm unsure if this is to be expected... seriously considering selling the damn thing, as I've only had it 2mths!

Thanks in advance for anyone who can be arsed to reply :D

Hy, check the link below may be some interest to you,
have you tried a new indicator bulb they sometimes look ok but are on strike, try getting the offending one out and put it in one of your rear indicators this will then give you an answer if it works in the rear then you have a connector or wiring problem, if it dont work then its the bulb check your rear flashs (sorry dont mean to be forward) before you try it.
as for the headlights well see the link seems some are prone to blow more then others and definately go for a good make run a search on this site for how to fit the bulbs there are some good hints and tips.
hope this helps and the boys start working night shifts again

Thanks Jonault, thank you Bumpy that was much appreciated.

I've booked the ol' boy in for a once over with Renault today so will let you know how that goes... on checking out my rear flashed well (ooh err) I spotted a damp patch in the passenger foot well yesterday (where the secret compartment is- ooohhhh) so am a little concerned that may be part of my problem. We'll see.

Some great tips found from both threads you guys gave as well as within the rest of this site. Shame I've been roped in to work today as I would have liked to have sorted the little probs myself (if possible).

Guess it's now down to the experts... enjoy your afternoon!

She who thanks ye
