Locking wheel nuts

Postby maam » Mon Nov 26, 2007 11:13 am

Does a 06 Megane Dynamique have locking wheel nuts as standard. Dealer used them for it's first service to tighten the wheel bolts. Got a puncture yesterday, had to change the tyre, checked the boot and they were not there. Dealer assures me they put them back in the boot?

If it's got alloys then yes you should have one locking wheel nut/stud per wheel, and you should have a full set of standard studs for your spare wheel?

I've checked everywhere - no wheel stud's - I did however find the 4 sets of studs for the spare wheel in the underfloor storage... They were there before the service but not now. If they have lost the locking wheel nuts - what now? I have a puncture, I need a new tyre!!!

In with the 4 spare wheel studs is there a coded key (looks like a nut with a funny end on it)

This is what you need to remove your locking wheel studs

If it's missing you can order a replacement (or rather if your dealer has lost it then they can!)
In your service book on the front page should be a list of all code numbers associated with the car. One of these will be the right one for the locking stud.

As to what you do now, not sure?
:?
Have you tried the AA or your dealer?

Dealer is fobbing me - they say some megane's do not have locking wheel nuts (even those with alloys). Asked me to double check and then to call them. Suggested they may need to shear the wheel nut off and replace it if not found.

I assume if I call the AA to take the car back to the dealer I'll be charged -I've read that the breakdown cover does not cover punctures.

That as far as I'm concerned is total B*** S***
If they've lost it they will be fobbing you off

Every Renault I have had with alloy wheels has had locking wheel studs.
As for the AA not sure on that one? Yes you have a puncture but you can't remove the wheel to change it yourself because the coded key is AWOL

So you need recovering to your dealership who will sort this for you FOC (if you stand your ground)

My sister suffered a similar experience when she had a small independant garage do some work on the brakes of her Astra. Some weeks later when she went to get a tyre replaced there was no sign of the puzzle key for the locking bolts and the garage swore blind that they never had it or lost it even though they were the last ones to take the wheels off. It cost my sister £60 to get the bolts replaced and we have told everyone that'll listen about what this garage had done so hopefully they will lose some potential customers.
Name and shame the garage that has stitched you up, afterall, you could be in the middle of nowhere at night and out of mobile phone coverage when you get a puncture. What would you do then?

Do the garage mate, they are stitching you up good and proper, had same issue with wifes before garage got new key for us, from reading this thread you have lock bolts in place but cant change the wheel as you dont have the key, in which case how the garage can with a straight face tell you that they dont come with them is frankly &*%*&$*, grab him by the scruff of the neck and show him the lock bolts,
of course that may not win you any favours but some of these guys/girls on the service desk are not engineers or salespeople(seceratary), indeed one seceratary tried to diagnose my car for me and told me my diagnosis was wrong (I was right and she gets paid less then me) of course proving they lost the key will be difficult but worth doing. Oh Ive had five rens, and the three with alloys all had/have lock bolts one of which is a dynamique. Lesson learnt always check they put lock nut away, i makew a point of handing it to them when i book the car in, probably because my boot is full %^& I then make a point of asking for it back i naturally distrust everyone........
