Don't bet on it. Thats what I had replaced along with the glow plugs and it came back on near enough straight away.

Would be interested to hear how it goes though with yours.

changed ... but

OK so the unit and plugs were changed under warranty - no problem, except once the plugs were changed they discovered a relay which was dishing out excessive voltage to the plugs.
This, they say, is what caused the plugs to blow in the first place - Well OK then.

So its back in next Tue to get a new relay to see if this fixes the fault? At least it is still covered by warranty!

54 megane - check Injection

Postby viv » Thu Aug 23, 2007 8:33 am

Hi there,

Thanks for this update. Mine is going back in for 2 days, 4/5th Sept for them to check the wiring from the unit!! Will keep your 'diagnosis' to myself at the mo unless it starts to cost me!

Not sure if the wiring is covered under my Warranty Direct warranty!

Cheers

Another £168 later the fault was located.

A week after I bought the car from new in Oct 2003 I took it through a car wash and the electrics went, everything went haywire and the car wouldn't turn off. It turned out that it was the cover on the fuse box that wasn't sealed, a fault that Renault knew about but were only fixing if the fault occurred.

It turns out that a small piece of wire (I have the piece) from the fuse box had corroded, caused by water getting in, which caused shorting of the wire. The garage who fixed it said that the problem I had when I bought it would have caused the fault and that on all later models the fuse box is sealed.

So I am going to write to Renault, not that I hold out much hope. Haven't worked out the total cost of trying to locate and fix this fault but it is in the region of £400!!!

Longish update ...

After the control unit was replaced - next morning there was old faithful "check injection" glowing brighter than the blackpool illuminations.

Called to book it back in and they said they would need it over night so they could get it first thing in the morning - I had been taking it in first thing with the engine still running anyway but - in it went on Monday afternoon ready for Tuesday morning.

Tuesday 4.00pm, as I was on the way to pick it up they phone to tell me they could not find a fault and the warning light had not come on - took them a long time to find nothing.

Told them they were talking out their a..e and then they asked to keep it overnight again - no way - I would bring the car with the blackpool illuminations shining bright first thing in the morning.

Needs a new glow plug on cylinder 1 sir - that will be £60 - no it wont. Ended up after a while of refusing to pay as they had already changed the plugs ( they had no record of them doing so !! - I do !!) that renault customer services would pay.

So far no illuminations since .... cant hold my breath much longer.
