Hi guys,
Only had my Megane a matter of weeks but a strange problem has happened.
In 3rd, 4th and 5th, as soon as the revs hit around 2700RPM, the turbo quietens down and the car loses all power. If I manage to get over 3000RPM the car starts pulling the horses again.
Any ideas before I take it back

Could be the turbo boost pressure sensor having a hicupp. It might also be EGR valve as these cause flatspots when gummed up.
More history on the car please;
Mileage, service history, any other problems?

I've had the car around 3 weeks now.
Was serviced at 17000k and currently has 23500k on the clock. Had 21000k on it when I purchased it.
No other problems apart from a few rattles inside the car driving me mad!
On the way home I made sure. Mainly in 5th.... as soon as I hit 2700rpm the turbo defo quietens down.... then everything seems to shoot back to life after 3000rpm.
Its driving me mental
its noticable in 3rd and 4th as well when accellerating.

If you've only had it for such a short time you need to take it back to your dealer for investigation.
Did you buy it from a Renault dealer or independant, and is there any warrnty on it?

Its an independant used car sales centre, came with 2 months warranty.
Its booked in with them on Thursday to see whats causing it.
I drove back to South Wales from Wembley last night, and the big 'Service' light came on and the screen said 'Check Injection' briefly, but then it returned to normal
Popped the cover off my engine this morning and the area around the turbo is covered in oil
and its dripping down onto the exhaust area.....

That's not good

Can I suggest you have a look on the Parkers forum. This is the link to the Renault dCi turbo problems thread. https://www.parkers.co.uk/advice/forum/t ... C_ID=18664.
There are other threads in the Ownership Problems section. Please read the topics at the beginning of each thread, and post your problems. AntMat and JustG will hopefully reply to you?

This is what ive just posted on the Parkers forum
AntMat,
Please accept my apologies in advance if there are any details that I've missed. Also, many thanks in advance for any advice.
Details as per Topic 1:
Renault Megane 1.5 Dci Authentique (80)
Date first registered - 01.04.2004
Engine type - DCI Diesel
Engine Size - 1.5
Transmission - Manual
Mileage - 23900k
Service history - 1st service at 17900k
Car owned - 4 weeks from used car dealer
My car went into Renault this morning because of a loss of power between 2500 and 3000rpm in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear, and also because there was alot of oil leaking around the turbo area.
I only noticed the oil leak because I was driving on the motorway, and the "check injection" message came onto the screen briefly which in turn caused me to pop off the engine cover to investigate. Upon investigation I saw the oil leak and put two and two together.
Apart from the loss of power and increased fuel consumption the car drove OK. Renault have come back and their findings are:
New turbo
New turbo intercooler
New EGR valve
Modified oil pipes
Total cost : £1698 + VAT.
Obviously I am very very gutted as I've only had the car a matter of weeks. The used car dealer I bought the car from is paying for the work though. Question is, do I trust the car from now on?
The question I have is that does the Yellow OTS scheme apply for my vehicle? I've gotten quite confused trying to read everything!
Once again, many thanks in advance.
Kind Regards,
Nailz

Well at least you don't have to pay for it.
As for trusting the car, I can't really say. As long as the repair is done correctly everything should be OK.
The one thing with the Renault dCi engines is that an 18000 service interval is too long, and when Renault introduced this they failed to up the oil spec accordingly, AntMat will tell you this as well.
Always use a 5W40 fully synthetic oil that meets the ACEA B3 B4 standard, and halve your oil change (i.e. 9000 miles)
The new Euro IV engines have 9000 or 12000 intervals and now have specific oil requirements.
