Megane Dynamique 1.4 Sport Hatch - Numerous Issues

Postby funkythumbs42 » Sun Apr 29, 2007 10:13 pm

Hi guys, first post on what I must say is an informative and excellent resource for megane oweners. I have owned my 05 Megane Dynamique Sport Hatch for a few month now, intially very pleased with it but now I am starting to discover problems with it. Some of my problems I have already found info on in other areas of the forum but Id like to share my experiences anyway and wonder if anybody else has had the same. The car is now at my dealer waiting to be looked at.

1. Airbag and service light has lit up. In conjuction to this steering if making a plasticy clicking noise like something is rubbing, coming from the inside of the car.

2. when driving slowly or parking, brakes squeal and steering also makes a high piched sound as you turn it to full lock.

3. when car is idling e.g. at traffic lights u can feel the car rumbling, like it wants to stall, it never does but doesnt feel normal to other cars Ive had.

4. when braking both passenger and driver seat feel as though they float forward, like they are loose.

5. chrome door handles have small cracks in them, seem to be getting worse.

Hopefully the issues will be sorted, I have approx one year warranty left. if issues reoccur as car is under warranty i fear it will go the distance before it runs out. Its a shame as its a pretty car and great when working as it should.

As i say i have got some info on some of my issues but any further advice is appreciated.

Cheers guys,

Greg

Hi and welcome to the forum. :wave

1: The Airbag light problem might be down the connectors under each of the front seats. Try disconnecting and then reconnecting them. This is a common problem, and is covered by your warranty.
The plasticy noise is likely to be your indicator stalk, this might need replacing?

2: Brake squeal, another very common problem. There is supposed to be a Renault cure for this, which involves replacing a nuber of parts, again all covered by warranty. This high pitched noise you can hear is the electric power steering, again not an uncommon problem, not sure if there is a cure for it?

3: Running problems could be a number of things? No experience of the 1.4 engine, but hopefully somebody will be along to offer more advise?

4: It is very likely that the seats have come loose, or there is wear in the slide/tilt mechanism, same thing happened to my wifes Clio. Again a warranty issue.

5: Cracked door handles are definately a warranty issuse.

Hope this helps :tu

Hi,I can help you with the friction noise coming from the steering,I have great experience with this type of noise.

It is definately the "ROTARY SWITCH" a very very common problem in all Meg`s it is the thing with the stalks for the wippers and the lamps.
They will change it under warranty at the dealer but believe me the sound will decrease but it will never be cured, all switches have sounds different from each other, it is a supplier problem and they are not willing to solve it,so keep changing them until you can withstand one of these sounds. It is not curable 100% but you can be lucky and find one with minimum sound.

Many people won`t notice it, but if you are like me with very senstive ears and with no cassette on the back ground and closing the 4 windows ,maneuvering to park the car with fast movement for the steering then Voila friction friction is there!!

hope this helps.

thanks for that guys, great help.

ref. steering wheel issue - i believe this is what has caused the airbag light to come on, the clicking noise is extremley loud and has gotten worse.

If i have to take the car back 3 times then im getting rid, 1 years warranty left, if issues keep reoccuring then i think i will cut my losses as i am going to end up spending more when thing is oow and breaking.
