Hi everyone.
I have a small problem with my A/C. When I use the fan alone, a very bad smell comes out. It is stinky, like something rutton. When I use the A/C on clod, the smell pretty much disappears. I've had this problem last year and they've changed the A/C filter for me and the smell was gone. Does anyone know how to change the A/C filter or where is it located? I've opened the hood and found myself lost! Is there any way to prevent this from happening? I mean, why the stinky smell??
Thanks.
A/C stinky smell.

A/C stinky smell.
Megane II sedan, 2005, 1.6, 16V, Steptronic.
The pollen filter is located under the dashboard, look under the driver side foot well and towards the centre next to the clutch pedal there is a white filter.
Squeeze the two tabs on the folder and pull out, the filter folds at severals sections to allow it to get past the clutch.
There is also airconditioner treatment. Do a search on the forum, this topic has been raised several times.

Finally I got the time and I went under the dashboard and changed the pollens filter. I had to look for it several times. Failed to find it according to the instructions mentioned. It wasn’t till I realized that you guys are all in the UK!! So I looked on the passengers side (right side her in Egypt) and here it was. I have to admit though, it doesn’t seem to be easier to extract or insert than in your case (as one would assume with the absence of the clutch) but there is some air box that I couldn’t (and wouldn’t try hard) remove. So it was a bit tricky to take it out and more difficult to put the new one on. But the job was done at the end. I still haven’t driven it around, but the smell seems to be gone although I couldn’t find the air treatment you mentioned in a place that delivers to Egypt, and I couldn’t find it here in Egypt also.
Thanks guys. I appreciate the advice.
One more thing, I didn’t through the old filter away, I vacuum cleaned it till it was dust free, then I soaked it in a detergent and Clorox then flushed with water (the reverse way of course), then left it to dry, now it smells really nice and dry. I wonder if I can reuse it next time!?

Classic!!
As to your cleaned pollen filter when the need arises again just try it as it wont do any harm and may save you some money in the long run.
