Hello everyone,
I was going to send off my multiplex module off for repair , but have been told the cheaper option would be to buy an ecu kit off eBay and fit it. Module repair from £80 to £160 depending on faults , ecu kit £40 so I guess it makes sense.
My question is , how easy is it to replace this myself ? Would I need something for the imobliser ? The ecu and multiplex module I see are straight forward , but I see a small silver box on some pics I assume is to do with the steering lock ?
Car is megane mk2 1.5 DCI 2005 reg
Is it possible to just swap the ecu and multiplex module and off we go , or is it more complexed than that.
Thank you in advance
Melanie

Re: Ecu kit replacement
Hi Melanie,
seems it's you and me again,
if l were you l would just do the interior multiplex (BCM) first with the steering lock mechanism.
You should get the card and the steering lock with it.
From posts l've read, if you don't change the steering lock, it will lock the first time, but won't unlock there after.
Hopefully, that might solve some or all of your faults.
To change the engine multiplex (PCM) l believe you would have to re-code the injectors.
l don't know, apart from ABS problems, what is wrong with your car as we have joined forces from another post.
l have never done this job, but l think the above mentioned items are what you are up against.
Do let us know how you get on.
Good luck
Bob.

Re: Ecu kit replacement
Hiya Bob ! You must see my name and think lord nooooo not Melanie again LOL
So here i am still trying to the car back on the road. Some good news sort of , an auto electrics company contacted me yesterday to say if I buy a 2nd hand multiplex module they cab re program it £45 to do this , quite a bargain they will need the old one out of my car to transfer data .
So with this new info I get in touch with ren parts , explain exactly what I need ( just the black box ) behind the glove box , to then be told yes they have one for £50 and it can not be reprogrammed as its needs to be chipped .
Talk about go around in circle's and banging my head on a wall . everytime I feel I'm getting somewhere , bang something else seems to be in the way .

Re: Ecu kit replacement
As l understand it, the chip is for the steering lock and key to recognise.
l looked on ebay and saw your £40 ad, which does give the key and steering lock.
You need to get the right one, so message them on ebay and give your serial number off the ecu and your reg number and what power the car is and ask if it's compatible with your car. lt shouldn't need re-programming, but check with them that is correct, before you buy.
lf the new interior ecu doesn't make any difference, at least you will have eliminated it and you'll have a spare one.
