Hello all
After nearly 50 years of driving I've just bought my first Renault, a 2006 CC Privilege 2.0 petrol with 54 000 on the clock which judging by the condition of the car looks genuine enough.
First off I don't have a service book with servicing stamps - is there one available for download so I can at least what should be done and when?
Because of this I'm going to change the timing belt ASAP rather than take a chance, anything else I should consider doing at the same time?
Rear discs are heavily scored so need replacing, presumably best to get those with bearings already installed? Plus look at pads all round.
Last thing is that the cigarette lighter fitting isn't working, presumably easy to fit a new one?

I see nobody has answered but it's recommended to change the water pump at the same time as the timing belt.
Good luck

Hi Geoff. I'd get saving as you will constantly be repairing the car. After 50 years of motoring, buying a 2006 Megane is possibly the worst decision you've ever made!

Hi there
Thanks for the tip regarding the water pump, I wouldn't have thought if doing it at such a low mileage.
Thanks cliopapa for the warning. I've had a trio of 2002 SAABs for the last five years and enjoyed keeping them running as well. Not so bad once you get the dealers electronic kit from China, a code reader and a supplier of used parts, the jobs, while complicated and technical, are a challenge to overcome.
Turbos, window mechanisms, electrics and sludge in the sump all well known problems to be dealt with.
Is the Renault dealers electronic kit available for purchase on the net, I take it for granted I can get a code reader?
I was chatting to a 2004 Megane owner at the weekend and he said it was one of the best cars he had ever had, only a bit of a problem, quickly solved, with the automatic gearbox, out of the ordinary.
I get the feeling that there's a bit of a negative vibe about Renaults whereas the SAAB site was full of advice on how to solve problems, perhaps being a minority niche, no longer made marque, had something to do with it.
Anyway, I look forward to putting lots of miles (or kms as I'm in Spain) on it, with enough challenges to keep the old grey matter working.
