Had a Service/Engine Management light on my car reset a few times EGR Valve.
Just had the valve replaced and the codes cleared, after 3 short runs its now back on again :(

What is the actual error code?

Mine has had a couple of EGR faults in the last 3 years. Both reported P0487, open circuit.
First time just needed clean up of valve AND associated pipework, all was gunged up. Ok for 3 years.

This time cleaning and changing the valve for my spare didn't resolve. Code cleared for couple of drives, then comes back. This suggests there really is an 'open circuit', i.e break in circuit somewhere. Haven't looked any further yet as I've basically had enough of the car and will scrap in in July when MOT is due.

So, just changing the valve won't necessarily fix the issue. Also need to clean the pipework, especially the 'holes' in the exhaust manifold which send gases into the EGR valve. Even that might no work if the fault is in the electrics leading to the valve. There are some basic checks you can do yourself but may need an auto electrician.

Thanks for that I don't have the actual code I'll see if I can get it, I'll also pass on about cleaning the pipe work

I'll post up How I get on

I too am going through hell with an egr. My car did exactly the same thing but now have traction control lights, check esp and the car won't drive over 1500rpm. Renault are trying to diagnose the fault including measuring resistance across the 2nd new egr on the car in a month and a third egr that Renault got me to buy to compare the 2. They are saying though that they may need me to buy other parts to replace generic parts with genuine Renault ones to continue to diagnose the fault! I'm on the verge of giving up as the car is not usable in its current state and I need a car desperately.

get to a difrent dealer, they can only change the part that is broken, :nut not change all of them until one of them yields a result. :banghead
you should not accept that, and only accept a change of the part that is actually broken !! that is not a way a diagnostics should work, that way, my 13yo sister could fix the car....

Finally after diagnosis by Renault we have answers. Apparently according to their master tech I have a rare car (07 Megane cc 2.0 diesel). Turned out both the aftermarket EGR valves weren't agreeing with the car spa 3rd one was needed AND the ECU failed creating other faults. Just waiting for one to be shipped from France and hopefully that will get me back on the road
