rattle when start engine

hi everyone when I start my Megane 1.6 petrol vvt 04plate it makes a rattling sound for split seconds then stops and does not do it again, its not a rattle like something is loose, if that makes sense??

I have looked and cant see anything at all. its coming from the engine area but not knocking like pistons or banging. please help its bugging me like mad as only does it when I start the car and then stops and never does it again.

Does that engine have hydraulic tappets? The noise could be just while the oil pressure builds up enough to take-up the gap.
If so, then it shouldn't make the noise when re-starting the engine just a few seconds after it has already been running.

hi mate I am not 100% sure on that ive just bought a hays manual so will have a read through that and see if my model has this or not.

it really P*** me off lol

i am going to have a tinker about tomorrow and fingers x i find it

sounds like the classic cam shaft dephaser problem - our VVT does it now and again but a good flush and frequent oil changes have resulted in it not happening for ages now. Replacement involves cam belt change.

If you fancy doing the dephaser job youself there is an excellent kit on EBAY which contains all the parts you would need. You would need to borrow the special tools such as the crankshaft locking pin and the camshaft locking kit or buy these from ebay as well. Doing this can save hundreds of pounds.

I still cant find what it is. that sounds a good idea anyways mate as be ready for new belt.

I am good with cars but never changed cam belt before and not happy doing it really so probs get the parts and ask a mate to do it for me.

I am wanting to change the spark plugs and put new ones in any one recommend any good one but not a arm and a leg

Ps all the left side of my car windows have stopped working any idea? I will check the fuse tomorrow as busy paving the garden
