I've got a 1.5dci 86 which has done 116k which I use for my 18 mile commute on mostly A roads part duel carriageway and a bit of country lane. It's averaging about 48 mpg, is this about right or should I've getting more? I drive at the speed limit and notice at 70 I could do with a 6th gear to drop the revs down.
What do you get in yours? I've read economy drops in colder weather with a diesel, Ive had it 2 months. Is this figure about right or does the car have a problem?

Re: Boring fuel economy question
I had a 100 hp megane hatch and got 53 mpg driving at limits on fresh oil but that dropped to your figure at oil change due..
tyres at 4mm or below also eat into consumption...
granted it could have done with another gear, but there isn't one !!!

Re: Boring fuel economy question
Interesting, last oil change was June and the car is telling me 5k to service maybe I should do an oil change and see. Three tyres were new just before I got it, fourth has about 5mm all are ditch finders however.
I'm not driving it hard, over half of my commute is at 70.
Interesting graph, so at 70 I should be seeing 45 - 53, what are the 4 lines hi low etc?

Re: Boring fuel economy question
There are so many variables influencing fuel economy...
The biggest is of course the heavy foot, then there's shifting habits, wind, hills, road type, trip length, tyre brand and type (up to 5% difference seen in tests), tyre wear, etc.
that makes it near impossible to compare fuel economy between two persons with different driving conditions. 48 average is entirely possible imho.

Re: Boring fuel economy question
60 mpg for my 1.5 dci, and with fuel prices slowly dropping it feels even better
Keep an eye on any really short journeys though, they will lower your average dramatically, and are also bad for engine if it doesn't reach normal temperature.
