Seems to rev too high??

Postby meadette » Fri Oct 24, 2014 4:26 pm

I have a 2005 Megane 1.6 16v and when I hit 70mph it revs at between 3,500 and 4,000 rpm. I have never been in a Megan before but this seems to be too high. Is this normal and if not, what might be the problem?

Thanks

Hi

This is normal for this engine , I had a 1.6 megane and own a 1.6 scenic both high revs , you feel it should have a 6th gear , think the later models have .

Gear ratios for JH3 and TL4 gearboxes are in the included link, and you know the wheel size. I hope this answers the question. The 5-speed box is JH3, of course.

A short answer is yes, it is normal. If one needs to know the precise value of revs, then please do the maths.
