Headlight connector burned out

Postby johnna » Fri Dec 27, 2013 6:04 pm

Hi all,
having replaced three electric window units, having fixed the indicator that didn't, having fixed the injector fault, having repeatedly wrestled the fuel filter into position, my driver's headlight went out again. I get bulbs cheap, but it is an awkward job. When removing the connector, I noticed the connector was burnt, the bulb was fine. It was really awkward feeding the bulb prongs into the metal ports in the connector. I figured that the connector housing was burned as the prongs and connector created an arc.

Tonight, it went out once more, I bought a new connector and some chocolate blocks. I fitted them and the access to the area was especially difficult. The old bulb was pretty badly burned too. What is it with the fuse ratings and poor electrical connectors on these cars?

My next job is the heater resistor plug fix.

Anyhoo, my reason for posting is to inquire if anybody else has had a similar headlight issue.

I cant do the bulbs myself so I get halfords to do them, its not worth the aggravation for me!

My passenger bulb had exploded (bits of glass cut his finger  ) and the connector burned. He replaced the bulb for me with a Halfords one and since then (3 months now) it's been fine, no repeat, and it's had plenty of chance too.

Would be nice to know why though.

I will never buy a Megane ever again :banghead
