Squeak from engine!

Hi, can anyone help? I have a 2004, 2 litre petrol CC and a couple of months ago I noticed a weird intermittent but regular squeak form below the manifold cover. It's hard to describe but it's regular and squeaks everyone couple of seconds so it sounds a bit like a pulley squeaking perhaps? I had the Cambelt kit replaced a couple of months ago but the squeak happened before that and is still here now (sounding quite bad yesterday actually on tickover). I had a minor service at the dealer I bought it from a month ago and mentioned the noise but sods law when I took it in it didn't do it so he reckoned there wasn't much to be done (he did say the VVT makes a bit of a squeak sometinmes but I wasn't convinced). Anyone got any ideas? It's driving me mad!

Did you replace the water pump when you changed the belts? Could be the pump.

Hi, no the pump wasn't replaced but they reckoned that was ok so didn't see the need to change it.

Sometimes a new, 'tighter' belt can cause issues with existing water pump which is why most would advise changing pump at the same time.

Thanks and you might be right. Thing is though I'm sure the noise was there before the cabelt change. I may drop it in to a garage tomorrow and see what they reckon.
