Rear windscreen washer jet

Postby welshboy » Mon Dec 10, 2012 10:02 pm

Hi, I don't know if I have a problem with my rear washer jet but when I use it I dont seem to get a really good spray out of it. There is no shortage of water there, just not a good spray pattern like the front. Is this just standard out of the factory or is my jet had it?

mine doesnt spray, just runs down the screen into the path of the wiper, as long as it clears the screen ok, i wouldnt worry, if nothing comes out though check the washer bottle 1st

the pipe or jets could be blocked, you could take the pipe off the jet and try it again to see what comes out, if the water supply is fine then its the jet, use a needle or a pin in the holes to unblock them

unfortunately the water pump for the wind screens are prone to failure on this cars, ive swapped two on this car and ive never swapped one single one on my 5 other cars i've had...the pump is probably "made in china" and the idea of a pump spinning for one side will pump water to the front and spinning to the other side will pump water for the rear is nice, but only as long as a crappy seal inside the pump can seal both outputs, but its obvious that will not do it for long because the pump motor shaft spins on its center. a real crap IMO

cheers

The rear one is a strange one - if you take off the trim from the c-pillar, there is a joint. The connect in this joing has a pin-sized hole and apparently there should be a a sort of ball type thing there which acts as a non-return valve. I didn't see the ball anywhere (unless I dropped is as I pulled the pipes apart, but I make the hole in the connector a bit bigger and it sorted my issue out - unfortunately,I learnt the hard way (replaced the pump first etc...)
