do dci's have breather clogging problems ?

Postby weldore » Sat Jun 23, 2012 6:40 pm

hi again,
i had the utter misfortune today of removing / cleaning and replacing a corsa c 1.3 cdti starter motor.it was a pig of a job to get to a bolt and i had to remove the main breather(i thing thats what it was) up to the intake.anyhows when i took it off it was blocked up with dried out hardened oil deposits..and i mean BLOCKED.the breather pipe was about 1 3/4 inch diameter and it was solid apart from a small hole and the end of the intake was as bad...so i was wondering if meganes have a problem like this that need cleaning out once in a while ?
i read somewhere that driving miss daisy style does these engines no good what so ever and once in a while you need to drive it like you stole it ...any thoughts anyone..would it be worth stripping it down or not ?

cheers..dave.

do you know if that car is consuming oil? it must with that massive qtty of oily carbon on the pipe...

in normal conditions those pipes have some oil but nothing like that, unless the car is consuming oil (a lot).

that was on the corsa..and it never used a drop of oil between services...well maybe a drop but nothing you would need to top up on..but it had done 150,000 and the inside of that pipe had probably never seen the light of day till then

The 1.9 engine (F9Q) does have a problem with the PCV system. Oil should drain back into the sump from the filler bottle, but the bottom hose is prone to blocking with a waxy substance. This means that oily mist is passed through the intercooler and turbo soiling both the intake manifold, and the EGR valve.

I have posted before on how to address this issue. Basically, clean everything, but please use the search function to find my original posts. If you get stuck, ask.
