Diagnostic socket
Hi, are there any techy,s out there that can tell me what type of interface is used on the diagnostic socket? My diagnostic tool (Scantool OBDII) will not comunicate with the vehicle? is it Can Bus? or other? Thanks for any help.

Has anybody got any further with this issue, I have a CAN compliant OBDII scanner and can't seem to connect to the car. I have seen a similar product work

EOBD in Megane uses the old style K-line interface, KWP (ISO 14230-4) protocol, fast init. CAN bus is used for Clip tool (Renault computer). Without Clip, you can see some traffic on CAN bus, but there is no way of decoding it. The pin map of the connector is standard; it is shown in the manual (sticky thread). ELM327 reader is known to work with these cars.
Those who confirm that CAN bus works are using Clip. This is unless something was changed in the last couple of years of production, which is unlikely.

Regardless of the age or whether the car is CANBUS, OBD II tools (ie Elm 327) should connect and read codes and MIL light problems. There are several parameters that need to be correctly set, such as baud rate, and so forth. If you cannot connect using any of the various combinations, then I suspect your tool is kaput. I've been through several readers that don't read.
CANBUS is a different kettle of fish. You can do many more things to the car, BUT, after much experimentation, it is not the Holy Grail. Sometimes, you need a combination of CANBUS, OBD, K-Line and all of the relevant ISO standards. CLIP should do this, but it is one hell of a pain in the ass to figure out. I've had many problems with it, and I consider myself very IT savvy.
Don't blame the socket. Try what I have already suggested - another reader. Elm devices (and similar) are often badly made.
