Hi
I would be extremely grateful if someone can help me. We have a Megane Coupe Cabriolet with a problem. When the second setting on the wiper stalk is selected the wipers wipe continuously and the SERVICE light comes on and the message 'auto wiper fault' appears. The sensor for this seems to be the issue as when we try to select the auto light function it doesn't work either and the message 'auto lights fault' appears. We have had the car on diagnostics and it says the problem was with the sensor which is located behind the rearview mirror. The screen has never been damaged or replaced.
Renault quote £110 plus VAT for the senor so I picked one up of ebay for 20 quid (not new but was supposedly working). When I fitted this (easy enough to unclip old sensor from housing attached to screen without damaging gel pad attaching it to screen) the same problem and fault lights appear. Can someone please help! The sensor has been replaced and does not fix the problem. Is there anything else that can cause this warning light and wiper/light issue?
Many thanks.

Re: Auto wiper fault/auto lights fault
did you replace the gel pad?? or did you reuse the old one what condition is the pad in? if you didnt use the pad to re apply then you need one to make the it work proply
another option is to use clear silicone selent to attach the sensor to the screen as the pads are expensive and may not be available sepratly to the sensor brand new
other options if the sensor is fitted correctly are there any fuses that have blown

hi mate got the same prob with mine waiting on a secondhand one from ebay will let you know how it turns out ! have orderd a new gelpad from here WWW.rejel.com
Re: Auto wiper fault/auto lights fault
Many thanks for your help. The old gel pad is still very well attached to the windscreen, I was very careful not to damage it when I was unclipping the sensor. The gel pad seems to glue a plastic moulding and the 'lens' of the sensor to the screen, I only detached the moulding which contains the electronics of the sensor. If the gel pad seems to be in good condition is there any possibility that it is causing the fault? It wouldn't seem like a good idea to change this as it looks perfect. If the gel is in good condition and I have replaced the electronics of the sensor the fuse may be the only other option - if this had blown could it cause the warning to flash?
We have had some other elctronic gremlins in the last few months and the the autolight/wiper warning light only came on during this time. I had read a few lines somewhere on the internet about 'resetting' the control panel or CPU in the car. Have you heard of this or is this an avenue worth trying?
Thanks again.

Re: Auto wiper fault/auto lights fault
if the gel pad is still connected with just the case id say it would be ok as its not damaged or been removed.
more likly to be the electrioncs of the sensor i would say. id try one from ebay or breakers.
as for the fuse i dontn know there is one just check the fuse diagram in the manual and the fuse box in the glove comparment.
im not sure about resetting the cpu could possibly done by disconnecting the battery for 30min or so but im not sure

Re: Auto wiper fault/auto lights fault
just to update you fixed this problem on my megane cc it was a blown fuse ! bit of a bugger to replace but doable fuse is in under bonnet fuse box fuse number 5f which is 7.5amp.

Well done!
Do you mean that all other circuits connected to the same fuse actually worked? ...or you did not check them? These are listed below:
After ignition passenger compartment: gear lever display - ECO/PERF
switch - cruise control and speed limiter - driving instructor's control unit -
passenger compartment relay and fuse unit - passenger compartment
auxiliary heater relay - diagnostic socket - hands-free carphone microphone
- rear-view mirror, rain and light sensor (depending on version)
