I need to change mine due to a private plate but they seem stuck on pretty solidly. I have given them a good tug and tried the boiling water down the back trick incase they have used sticky pads but they refuse to budge - not screwed in either. also tried running some wire behind it to "hacksaw" any potential pads off but to no avail so i'm at a loss as to how i'm going to get the buggers off!
Thanks for any help.
how are the number plates attached?

They are just stuck on but that 3M tape is tough stuff!
There is no easy way of getting them off other than trying to cut the tape or getting a plastic wedge under it to avoid damaging the bumper

Re: how are the number plates attached?
I had the same problem when did mine, but mine had both the sticky pads and additional fittings:
[*] Rear plates had rivets (which seems to be standard);
[*] Front plates had normal philips screws, but these were covered over by epoxy plastic which I had to break off (they had a posi-drive indentation on these which when I tried to unscrew the the head just rounded off, so I took a molygrip to it, but this broke the plastic 'cover' revealing the screw below it)
