Air conditioning fault 1.5dci

Postby stralis77 » Tue May 29, 2012 12:38 pm

Hi
i own a 1.5dci and have has issues with the ac not working. I have just re-gassed. There was 450g of refrigerent so no significant loss of gas really.

When I press the ac button the light comes on but the compressor does not engage.

This problem occured last year. I found that when I switched the engine off and back on again the compressor would engage? Recently though the ac has stopped working altogether.

Any ideas or common problems anyone experienced?
I understand there was a modified plug fitted to the compressor?

Thanks

common issue is the pressure sensor, attached to the condenser (radiator), that is malfunctioning or its not connected properly. usually mine gets dirty and i just have to clean the connector and its fine again

Any chance you could put a photo of this plug up as I'm having the same issue, also how do you clean it?

Thanks

the pressure switch looks like this:

and its attached in the front on the right lower side of the AC radiator.

to clean it take out the plug, put some contact spray inside, check fr dirt inside and wipe it off. then plug it again and check if the ac is ok or not

cheers

hi i have a megane 1.5 dci air con dont work had it regased told it was regased but still dont work
ive done some investigating and found when i press aircon button no aircon. but if i take off the plug to the pessure switch. then put it back on while aircon is on. it starts the fans then after 5 secs the pump starts and all works well. nice and cold and if i switch off with button in car and on again starts working again. but if turn egnition off and start again it dont work again untill i pull the plug again. tryed a pressure switch from scrap yard still the same. any sugestions anyone? ie how to test pressure switch ect

Reading the fault codes might help (I can't remember if it is in the OBD reference - I suspect not). Physically moving the connector is the biggest clue. Perhaps the connector is corroded, the wiring loom has an intermittent break, or the sensor is kaput.

I listed the potential problems in the order of cheapest repair.

there is a fault code for this switch alright but im not sure if ELM327 can pick it up as it is a AC problem and not a engine problem... :?

maybe someone who tried it out can help

I have just tried the same as previous person. If I remove the plug when the engine is running the engine fan kicks in? I have checked the plug and wires and there is no resistance issues. I'm thinking of trying a switch but they are a little pricey!

where are you guys taking your cars to?......muppets and fastfit (we only fit things/oil change merchants/take easy money) outlets......take them to an a/c specialist that will actually know what he's doing......not guess/send you down the road......but actually does repairs!!
If they cant fix your expensive system.......don't let them touch it......(would i let the hospital cleaner operate on me......NO!)

Hi all,

My air con is not blowing cold air on my 1.5 diesel estate (which I have just bought). As I have read the above posts, thought I will try to clean the pressure sensor first and if it still wont work I will try to regas it. My question is, how do you guys go about removing the pressure sensor? I cant reach it from the top of the engine so I thought about removing the plastic cover from the bottom. Is that what I should do? Any advice on how to remove the retaining plastic clips, in a way that I can put them back on?

Thanks,

If you mean the plastic underside engine guard, it should come away after removing around 5 10mm set screws.

If you mean the bottom section of the bumper (having first removed the engine guard), it's easier to remove the bumper it its entirety. This really is a 15 minute job.
