Wet floor boxes

Postby jm85 » Thu Jan 21, 2010 5:53 pm

Hey everyone,

Today I collected my 2003 DCI 1.9 Megane and first impressions are really good. Everything works, windows, air con, sun roof, sterio, computer the lot, all seems ok.

I checked under the passengers side wheel arch and the headlamp cap is still there. Everything looks good.

The only issue I have is these damp floor boxes. I remembered someone mentioning them on here before.

Both sides (but mainly the passenger) are damp inside. Im worried this could be the start of a megane hell. Ive searched the forum for what to do but am struggling to find the solution.

Is it faulty seals on the doors? Speakers?

Mate, read this. Its just a shame the photos have gone.

Dont worry tho its a Megane "feature"

Also while i was searching i read that it could also be the aircon breather pipe causing it or blocked drain holes below the windscreen. Keep searching the answers are there because your not the first and im sure not the last :-(

I'd put my money on the aircon-drainpipe.

It's located here (click the image):

Just remove the lid and stick a piece of installationwire in the drain and pull it back and forth. There might be something blocking the drain. If there's nothing in there, just lube the cap so it will open easier when the aircon needs to drain it's water. Or just cut of the lid. The drain is protected by the exhaust heatshield, so there's little chance of any dirt getting in there from under the car.
If you want to do it completely right, you'll have to take out the pollen-filter in the interior. Underneath it is a sort of gutter, leading to the drainpipe. There might be (parts of) leaves in the gutter. They get sucked in through the ventilationchannels.

My car leaks in through the door pockets. Have found them to be soaked. Think I'll take the door cards off and get that sticky backed plastic used to cover school books and seal the door with it where I can. May work to stop some wet getting in.

You need to make sure the drain holes at the bottom of the door are clear too ;)
