Fuel gauge

Postby Davehull » Mon Jan 16, 2012 8:02 pm

Hi everyone..I recently bought a Renault megane dynamique s and filled it up with diesel but the fuel gauge reading was wrong, only shows 3/4 full..does anyone know of this problem and how to get it sorted..also the controls for adjusting the wing mirrors isn't illuminating and the switch for the cruise control isn't illuminating either..any help would be greatly appreciated..

is it fitted with a trip computer, for mpg range etc?

fuel sender unit may be faulty, or fuel level sensor,

it used to be a mechanism in the tank like a ballcock system on a hinge that floated on the top of the fuel to gauge level this has long gone i'm lead to believe and should just be a sensor now.

trawl the net for similar issue with any other modern car it may hold the answer.

what does your trip computer read you've used in fuel when the tank is on its last legs on the gauge? it could just be as simple as a stuck gauge, ie wont move past that point even when fuels toppers, if your trip computer is reading like 11 gallons+ your using more than 3/4 of a tank.

I haven't had chance to use the full tank yet,I just know it won't go to the full mark when the ignition is on..goes all the way down when turned off..it could be what you said but I'm not sure..any idea about the illumination problem with some buttons and the key card reader isn't lighting up either..if not I'll get it into a Renault specialist, see if they can figure it all out

Did you get to the bottom of this?

Ive had a similar problem(also on a dynamique), the gauge goes past full when full but will not go below 3/4 tank.

Ive fitted a different in tank unit but same result.
