Okay everyone, long story but you get a video as a treat when you finish reading this.
I got my tyres changed at Kwik-Fit in Norwich last Wednesday 16/11, as I needed to drive to Warwick that evening for a job interview the following day 160 miles.
On my drive I noticed that the tracking had not been adjusted correctly, meaning that I had to drive the car with the steering at a 45° angle in order to keep it the straight line. In addition the car had developed a squeak/chattering noise when you rotate the steering wheel left from centre and all the way to full lock. I then took it to Kwik-Fit in Stratford-upon-Avon who corrected the tracking which inturn sorted that the steering but not fixing squeak.
I've been back to Kwik-Fit in Norwich saying that there is a squeaking coming from when you turn the car to the left and it's only been doing that since the tracking was being wrongly adjusted. They had a look and said that they can hardly hear it and if anything it may be just a bearing in the steering column from wear and tear.
So what are your thoughts?

Re: Steering squeek
on your vid it comes across like a clicking kinda noise, like compacting rubber so may well be a worn steering gaiter?
might be worth while getting it in the air and having a mate turn the steering whilst you examin for noises or leaks along the rack
one of mine actually emits a small sqeal/sqeek when turning left and right like a bloody mouse lol.

yes bud if you have some axel stands jack the car from the centre/front and pop axel stands under either jacking point and take front wheels off, you'll be more than safe on flat ground etc.
just easier to get your head in there to listen close.

Re: Steering squeek- VIDEO
is this likely to be something to do with steering being electrically assisted? its just both mine have the same kinda noise and again only when on the ground,
the steering is still light with all fluids correct, maybe grease on the steering rack?or the gaitor wearing, its just it sounds more electrical to me.

mine sounded like it was jumping teeth on the rack really wierd but it has now slightly subsided and is very random now. just given up and put it down to being a renault passed an mot at a main dealer garage the other week that didn't pick it up so cant be anything that bad lol
