2007 Sports Tourer gearbox change

Postby sniffy » Wed Jul 13, 2011 8:56 am

Hi - new to the site so apologies if I've missed this topic elswhere....

The gearbox (70k and never abused from new !) is whinning and clunking so presuming another gearbox is required, :cry

is the change something that can be done on the drive. Ex mechanic with full range of tools (bit rusty though)

Local Garage unable to do as they say you needa two post lift, but others say can be done by dropping the subframe on a jack

Any advice welcome

Just had a look in the Haynes manual and it is rated as a 3 spanner job, so actually not too difficult at all.

To give you an idea of the difficulty, I changed my glow plugs yesterday and that was a 3 spanner job. Not hard at all.

It says you can jack it up and change it without dropping the engine.
