Hi all - I'm in desperation! Part of me knows I should just submit and go to a main dealer but its the principle!
After spending a long time trying to remove a failed headlight bulb and reading multiple threads about 'just squeeze the retaining clip', i've now got a failed bulb with the connectors broken off the back. i.e. i got to the thing fine (after second attempt and removing wheel and wheel arch cover), but then could not see any indication of a clip no matter what angle i looked at it or took picture on my mobile. i eventually came to the conclusion it must be held in by 'friction' so tried to force it out which is when the connectors came off.
Its an 08 facelift model so I hope its something simple i'm overlooking and it doesn't have a retaining clip but would love it if someone could point me in the right direction. i dont particularly want to remove the bumper and cluster etc.......................

Re: The dreaded Megane headlight bulbs!
i think newer models you need to twist the bulb as there is no retaining clip. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=6307
Re: The dreaded Megane headlight bulbs!
thanks ray - i'll give it another go tomorrow if i pluck up the courage - but i'm pretty sure thats how i ended up breaking off the connectors. I must be blind as even the renault user manual says 'push spring down' with the most vague diagram i've ever seen.
looks like bumper off it is.

Re: The dreaded Megane headlight bulbs!
My 08 facelift didn't have any clips (they might have been 'lost' by the previous owner). Basically I pulled off the connector and the bulb was loose. The only thing holding it in place was the tension between the wires and the black cap. This is standard lighting not HID.

Re: The dreaded Megane headlight bulbs!
cheers dave lowe and ray for the advice. i think i'm gonna have to hand over to the professionals. looked again today, and there is no clip, and bulb will not budge - especially without much to hold onto. tried in and out, up and down, side to side, clockwise and anticlockwise, swearing cursing, spitting snorting and every other thing (apart from taking off the bumper). iys certainly not loose. unbelievable! i'd never claim to be genuine mechanic or anything, but this is ridiculous. must remember never to drive to france where they'd do you for not having a working headlight and you cant change it yourself!
