Stupid question? Probably! Petrol cover...

Postby stuza » Tue Jul 05, 2011 12:59 pm

Hey guys

we've just purchased a 2004 Megane 2 cab, 1.9 dci Privalidge and it has a number of very small problems (we got it cheap to reflect these).

One of them, i'm not sure is a problem or not.....

There doesn't seem to be a petrol cap as such or locking mechanism, just a metal plate you force the hose nosel through which then flaps back after filling. It strikes me that this might not be normal and maybe the exterior (thats the same cover as the body paint) cover should lock? I've looked at it but can't honestly see a locking mechanism on it. If this is the case, i'm also unable to find a button to release the exterior flap!?

Of course, it could be designed like this and it could have protection built deep down in it to stop someone sticking a tube down and sucking up diesel! :)

Is it a problem or is it correct?

edit: Sorry, also, should the privalidge have had reverse parking sensors? For some reason I think it should have but we don't appear to.

Many thanks!!!

:-) this has made me giggle, thank you as I was having a crap day! It is mean to be like this :-) don't worry it is fine, it is designed that so if any tube is forced down it is diverted and your petrol/ diesel isn't stolen..

And not sure about the parking sensors, I could well imagine that it is an optional thing in which case some will have them and some won't..

Hope that helps

Your petrol cover cap (colour coded panel section) on the body should lock when you lock the car, tried this on mine when I first got it as was concerned about it. Sure there's an explanation about it in the manual.

Lock the car and then try open the hatch by hand, shouldn't be able to open it until you again unlock the car.

Didn't initialy see anything when I looked hurriedly in the petrol station the other week (when we first picked the car up). Will have another look tonight when the gf brings it home.... odd though, your information contradicts the other two!

I agree with what he's said... The flap you pull open locks, in my opinion tho its not that strong.. Most petrol flaps lock regardless of whether or not there is a cap/ top inside..

?????

But thats half of what I was talking about but you didn't mention any locking mechanism in your first post!?

OK - so, thats another small issue to add to the car then.

Sorry, here's some pics, you'll see if it's working or not, the pics show unlocked, locked and where the lock pin goes :-)
Hope that clears it all up :-D

Thanks for the photo's! Much appreciated that you took the time out to do that!!!

I'll have a look tonight when we both meet at home.... can honestly say though that iirc, ours doesn't look anything like that! Well, it has the "sucker" bit that goes over the pipe "hole" but thats about it. It didn't look snapped or damaged in anyway either ..... Will check tonight :)

Oh Joy!

Another little issue to add to the car then. After seeing your pictures, I had a little nosey around and stone me, it IS supposed to lock! It appears that our is pin is stuck in the open position. I'm guessing this means removing the black plastic surround around the petrol hole itself?

Not such a stupid question after all! :grin

edit: Sorry I mean the hex bolt in the pictures you are showing ... remove that/those and it should mean the cover is removable to see whats going on?

I'm not sure how to get access to it, maybe there is access from in the car?
Also might be worth trying wd40 on it seeing if that loosens it up.. To be honest tho I wouldn't worrie about it..
