Hole in intercooler

Postby Baggieboy » Sat Jun 11, 2011 1:05 pm

2008 1.5 dCi Dynamique CC

Car was serviced today, dealer has reported that the intercooler has a hole and is leaking air. Was asked if I'd noticed a lack of power, however I've only had the vehicle a couple of months and the problem may predate my ownership. Hopefully it will be covered by warranty. I assume that the intercooler isn't in a place where a stone thrown up could damage it?

The intercooler on these cars is right behind the big vents in the front bumper. Mines got a few vanes mashed up, but thankfully no hole in it. Easy to replace if you get the part yourself. Front bumper off - two hose clips and it lifts right off.

It's a bad design. The good part is that it shields the radiator and air conditioning from getting hit!

Cheers for the info. I found a guide to changing the intercoolwe, and as you said it's not too hard. I found a brand new one in ebay for under £130, a used one for half that. I've removed a bumper on a previous car so I'd be happy to do this one too.

I suspect Renault will reject a warranty repair and try to sting me £300 or so to fix it, if so they won't be getting my business.

Its always a good idea to phone Renault Customer Services before you take any action. They might cover some of the cost if genuine parts are bought. Obviously, it might still cost you more... They won't pay out if you do the work first!

Dealer got back to me, Renault have accepted the warranty claim and will replace the intercooler. I was quite surprised!
