Glass roof hell

Postby emma-55r » Sun Feb 24, 2008 12:40 am

Ok here is my storey, Im hoping someone can help me please.

I have a May 2007 Megane Dynamique S CC (1.9dci 150). Last month I parked it in the same carpark I always park in for work (NO CCTV) and when I returned to the car at 5:30pm (called Philip by the way) and the centre panel of glass from the folding roof was on the seats :-( .

Didn't find anything inside the car to suggest what was used to smash it and the police think it might of been kids bored on a saturday with nothing better to do, but thats another storey.

Anyway, Autoglass wouldnt touch it, nor would my renault dealer as they (quote) "dont have the knowledge and skill to deal with something as complex as philip's folding roof".

Last option was to claim though my insurance (lucky my bonus is protected) who after a fight as to whether it was a bodywork claim or a glass claim (they said glass go to autoglass i said bodywork you do it) took it on as a bodywork claim.

The car was away for 2 weeks and came back a week ago last wednesday and seemed as good as new but friday morning went out and I had a pond on my front seats :-( .

So the garage that did the work have taken it back and they say the leak is not a result of the repair its an existing defect on all renault cc's and the window rubbers attached to the roof, while renault now say the warrenty on the roof and its rubbers is revoced as it has been replaced BUT the best bit is, the repair garage have now told me they did not do the repair themselves. They sent it to an undisclosed renault dealership with a bodyshop to subcontract the repair as they too did not have the skills or knowledge to deal with Philip's roof (where have i heard that before, hmmmm)

So is it a renault defect or is it a result of the repair???

I am blonde and just a girl but I think its repair related!!! And do my dealership have the power to cancel my warrenty????

So now what do I do???? I dont know much about the workings of philip's roof apart from how to put the roof up and down, so if my ramblings made any sence to anyone could you please offer up you advice!!!

Thank you in advance
Emma

If it didn't leak before and it leaks now its repair related whatever they say. I would go back to your insurance company and ask them to resolve it. It is they you pay for your insurance ...

Yep. Get the insurance company to sort it, there is always some kind of warranty on work that has been done.

Firstly, welcome to the forum

  :?

Sorry I'm confused here, your Renault dealer have no knowledge of how to repair the products they sell?

So where did the car go for repair? You have a right to know.

There have been many problems with leaking CC roofs but that was supposed to have been cured on the facelifted model, (redesigned seal's etc..)
If it has been repaired by a Renault dealer then your warranty should not be affected, so they are talking out of their rear oriface when they say that the warranty is revoked.

As you have gone through your insurance company for the repair it is them who should be dealing with this.

Can I suggest you contact Renault UK customer service and inform them of this whole farce. I would also copy the letter to your insurance company and all the involved parties, including your dealer who said orginally that they could not repair it?
Make improvements, not excuses!

Update

Postby emma-55r » Mon Feb 25, 2008 11:02 pm

Ok here is a quick update on poor philip. :-(

Got the insurance comp involved much to the annoyance of the repair centre  and they have hammered things out and the renault garage that did the repair now have philip and are goin to do somethin to the rubbers and also adjust some important screws on the roof mechanism but didnt really understand that bit.

Anyway also found out that the undisclosed garage in question is actually part of the same franchise as my dealership and my warrenty isnt goin to be revolked as indicated by my renault branch. My insurance comp have also told me all accident repairs hold a 5 year warrenty so that will last me longer than I intend to own the car anyway.

Have been told it should be ready on Thursday but I insisted I go and pick it up myself from the repairing renault garage. And yes I will have my watering can with me (not taking any chances). So lets hope thats philip back to being on top form.

Thanks for the advice  , was also wondering, when I collect the car is there anythin I should be looking at (rubber wise???) to ensure its done right this time and to ensure this problem doesnt reappear in 6 months time?

Hi Emma

Welcome to the forum. Just been reading your post, all I can say is shocking service!

As far as I know, when you collect your car all you can do is hope for the best. But if it leaks again, (and I would keep a very close eye on it) do not hesitate to return it for further investigation. You pay your insurance (as we all do) for peace of mind, don't let them get away with anything less than can reasonably be expected.

Regards

On the drive back i would drive at a fair speed with the roof up and the stereo off so that you can listen for any wind whistling in, if so its not been sealed properly again.

the storey continues.....

Postby emma-55r » Sat Mar 01, 2008 3:30 pm

ok, im sure by now it wont be as suprise to hear my car still isnt fixed....

got to the garage yesterday and not thursday as they had told me (needed more time to finish the job) and I had my mind made up I wasn't taking the car until I had looked at every inch of the roof!! here follows a list of problems I found, hence I'm still car-less....

1. was told my a friend to put the roof down and up again before I started my inspection and lucky I did, went down very smoothly as alway but on the way back up on the passanger side of what I call the parcel shelf, (plastic thing that moves up and down and has a disc each side that open out when the roof is down and close over when up) the plastic disc did not close and as I closed the roof heard a loud crack (thought the glass had broke) saw the big roof bar had come into contact with it and broke it clean off. the guys face went white and I saw red. He got the full rath I have been saving up since this mess started(to be fair he apologized and said he will get it fixed)

2. this made me determined to carry on with the inspection of this so called repair work and as you guys recomended went for a drive in the car and you were right it was like being in a wind tunnel at 50mph it was as if the window was open.

3. finaly decided to go for gold and check it with a car wash before heading back and more water went in the car (just where the roof meets the windscreen on both sides and where the front and rear windows meet ) than down the drain at the carwash. :-(

went back called the accident repair centre and my insurance and once again the 3 parties are fighting it own between themselves while I have no car.

so in conclusion its come back this time with even worse leaks and a whole new problem. If its not fixed this time im either moving to spain where I can have the top down all year round or im goin to sell it!!!!   dont really want to do either...
