Keyless Entry Problem

Postby helstu » Sun Dec 09, 2007 10:05 am

Hi all,

Ive only owned by Megane 1.9 DCi for a few days and over all I love it, especialy the keyless entry system.

The only issue I have is that I can only unlock the drivers door or boot. The passenger door will not open, the sensor behind the handle doesnt seem to detect anything. I also cant use the botton on the handle to lock the door.

Both the drivers and boot locks work fine as well as the auto window / dead lock feature.

Ive tried both cards and its the same with each of them. Can anyone confirm that either the sensor is duff or that I should only be able to open the drivers door via the keyless system.

Thanks

Stuart

No this a common fault in the keyless entry system and I had it on Megane too. Heres the bad news. Most garages charge around £108 for the handle and £108 for the sensor. So if your car is out of warranty I would just live with it unless they can do you an amazing deal. You may find they start working in the wet, mine usually did.

Thanks for the quick reply... its a 54 plate so out of Renault warranty but I got a 2 year warranty with Evans Halshaw. So I guess it will be going back to be fixed along with my non working steering lock.

Thanks

Extended warranties and renaults = good combo. Hope it gets sorted.

Tell me about it... I bought a Clio 1.5 DCi from them about 3 years ago on a 51 plate when they were still called Reg Vardy.

Within 5 mins of leaving the dealership the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. It took 3 return visits for them to fix it. They said the diesel pump had gone and was full of metal filings. After a replacment pump, injectors, ecu and fuel lines it turned out to be a £4 seal allowing unmetered air into the engine.

But it was all paid for under my warranty :-P

Hi, i had the same problem with my drivers door sensor not picking up, phone renault and they told me it was the pickup sensor around £40, i thought id see if i could repair it as am tight and dont like wasting money, anyways try this as it may save you lots of £s

Remove Door card and let it hang down towards the floor no need to remove completely

Where handle is there will be a plastic cover held on with two clips remove this, dont worrie if you break it and its not important

Next use a screw driver to lock the door catch in door and lock door using key card or button on handle

Now look into where the handle is and there will be some plugs remove the one at the bottom of the handle, wait about 10 secs and put plug back in, this should reset the sensor and should now start working.

If your button does not work its normally due to being stuck, get a small plastic fork, or screw driver and prise button out gentle, just enough so button moves, squirt up with WD40 and keep pressing and prising out untill it become unstuck, now your handle button works and you aint spent a penny

If the sensor is not working and the button is not working you will probably find that the button is pressed in and stuck and that makes sensor not work, unstick the button 1st as this is easyer than removing the door card

How do you find out if your car has this feature? I have a card but has never opened the door unless i hit the button on the card (ive had it about 8 mths). I have wee plastic covers under my handle but im not sure if they are just there by default or it has this feature. Dosent say in my handbook if i have it, just esplains how it works.

burntcactus the doors would unlock with the keycard in your pocket by slipping your fingers behind the handle. Also car would start by pressing button with card in your pocket. Great system when its working ok!

Thanks for all your replies.. I contacted the dealership I bought it from and according to them the passenger side will not open using the keyless system. Now I find this difficult to believe as Ive had the car for about a week and its a bit of a pain not being able to open the passenger side door with the keyless system. Also he fact that Renault went through the trouble of fitting the keyless door handles as well as sensors to both doors.

The button on the handle seems fine and 'clicks' when I press it just like the working drivers side. The button on the boot also works fine.

I think I might have alook at removing the door card and try resetting the sensor.

Thanks
Stuart
