Dynamique 1.5 DCI (106)

Postby rich t » Thu Aug 07, 2008 9:25 am

hi guys,
New to forum and looking to buy Sept 07 1.5 DCI Dynamique. Car looks good and with only 12000 miles drives well. 6 speed box new to me. Anybody experienced any problems with this model? Also, the car has a panoramic sunroof - any particular issues with this - leaks etc? Picking car up tomorrow - can't wait.

Cheers for now.

I have an '07 with panoramic roof and no problems so far (even with the rubbish weather recently). I think it's the CC's that tend to have more issues.

I think most people on here would recommend extra oil changes between services especially on the dci's

Thanks M3gane, I was a bit worried about the panoramic roof as it seems to be an extra the car does not really need especially as it takes it above the 35 pound road tax bracket. It does look good on the car though.

When I was in the showroom buying the clio I was advised against the 1.5dci, they recommend the 1.2 16v engine for the clio as they said the dci lacked power. If the 1.5dci lacked power in a clio, I didn't even consider it with the Megane.

I know someone with the Megane 1.5dci sport tourer (estate) and they say it lacks power.

I've had no personal experience of this engine, i'm sure there's people out there very happy with the 1.5dci engine.

It depends what you're used to, and how you drive, but my 1.5dCi 106 doesn't lack power once the turbo has spooled up - combined with a healthy amount of torque my car certainly moves! And with average economy (for me) of ~58mpg, I think it's fantastic.

Do realise that the 1.5dCi comes in different specifications, something like 68, 86 and 106. the higher the number, the more power

Yeah I think the sport tourer was the 86, so not surprising it lacks power for the size of the car.

You have been mislead, I think the dealer must have needed to shift some 1.2's to reach a bonus target or something.

that is true....the 1,5 dCi is definitely the best engine money can buy in a megane.... I am kicking myself having chosen the 1,9 and thus spending an additional litre of diesel every 100 kms....

of course....no more and no less.

when I buy a car worth about 8000 pounds then I want it to be reliable, high on mpg and high on torque....
guess three times which engine meets these figures in the best way.?

when I buy a car worth 30 or 40 thousand quid it is an entirely different story.

so what is your favourite engine for the megane?

Possibly was mis-lead because they had to get rid of the 1.2 16v's but I don't regret it - good engine for the clio. But being mis-lead doesn't alter the fact the person I know with the megane tourer which is a 1.5dci says it's very poor. However everyone has their own opinion, If i was going to buy a diesel though I would go for a 1.9.

The Clio 1.2 16v was quicker than the megane tourer 1.5dci. As the owner says "It would struggle to pull the skin off a rice pudding".

I would seriously suspect that your friend's engine has something wrong with it. I ran a Scenic (which is heavier than the Megane) for a year with the 80hp dci and whilst no ball of fire it was perfectly acceptable. It's generally accepted both in the motoring press and on review sites etc that the 1.5dci punches above it's weight and is an excellent engine.

I had driven a couple of 1.2 Clios as loan cars, very smooth engine and quiet at low revs but worse economy than my Megane and noisy on the motorway so not for me. The second car was the 1.2 turbo, that was quite fun and actually better on fuel than the non-turbo.

I had a Clio 1.2 as a courtesy car when having my 1.4 Megane serviced. The Clio felt a lot quicker and more responsive than my Megane. There is not much difference in performance of the Megane 1.4 and Megane 1.5 dCI.
