Must have gadgets

Postby pocket » Wed Jan 30, 2008 8:53 am

i'm about to order a new megane GT dci and i'd like to hear what people think the must have extras are for the megane, either when ordering the car or to add later. You know the things you think you cant live without.

I thought I couldn't live without the Panoramic roof but I managed to with my Scenic. Its is a very nice edition, especially to the Megane. Also I would strongly consider climate control. I'm kicking myself I didn't go for it this time around.

Again the panoramic sunroof. Make sure you get the auto-wipers (may still be standard on the GT) as they're very useful. If you're into music then a tunepoint (or similar iPod connection from Dension etc) is a good idea. I wouldn't have minded the folding mirrors...

I'd have; -

Handsfree/Folding mirrors
Autowipers/lights
Climate Control
6CD Auto changer etc..
Parking sensors
Cruise Control

I'd forget:-

Sunroof (can rattle and takes a lot of headroom away)
Sat Nav (Buy a map, much cheaper!)

HI There

I have had a GT for almost a year and have had nothing but trouble, great car performance wise but crap electrics. Quite a rare car as renault launched the DCI renautsport just after. I would personally take one of those instead if I had the chance again!!!

gt extras

Postby paulcoyle » Thu Feb 07, 2008 8:56 pm

I have a 07 megane gt in the exclusive mineral blue colour (sky).

i read some of the things posted already, most of the extras are factory fit, ie climate control, cruise control, panoramic sunroof, folding wing mirrors.

There is a lot fitted as standard, especially when compared with other manufacturers (vw prime example). The extras I would choose again are multifunction tunepoint as you can buy usb pen drives cheaply (4gb of £10 on ebay) so don't need an ipod to use it. This is also advantageous as it won't rattle in the glovebox either. It can be fitted anytime at a dealership for about £110 and can be controlled via the thing at the steering wheel.

The other was a rubberised boot liner as I do a lot of outdoor activities so it can be easily cleaned. a bit overpriced at £90 but I haggled to get it thrown in when buying.

I got the ECU remapped to 180bhp and the car runs smoother and I get better economy (45 mpg cruising at 80-90mph). I also got the windows tinited/superglassed at the rear and passenger. For more info about superglass look at https://www.pentagonglasstech.com. Basically it is a polymer resin which makes the glass smashproof from the outside.

If you go for the cabasse 6 disc cd you can't get the multifunction tunepoint. No contest really tunepoint cheaper and more music at your fingertips.

tunepoint good, cruise control if you do long journeys and the speed limiter is good if you have a speed cameras round you. apart from that i tend not to have much else its just more to go wrong..
