Hi Rich

Welcome to the club!!

I drive a 1.4 so I'm not the bloke to answer your questions, however a lot of members have the 1.5dci and most of them really rate them.

I have driven one and to be honest I wished that I'd ordered one instead of my 1.4 (more low down power and faster!) :D

Still like my car after two years though - so can't be that bad!!

Trust me - there will be some 1.5dci owners along very soon to give you the lowdown.

Regards

Rob

I have a dCi 106, which is the more powerful 1.5 in my tourer and it's really good. I came from a 307 1.6 petrol (110bhp) and find the Megane quicker apart from the initial off the line. I'm very impressed with my first diesel, and it's returning very good economy for me.

Hi Rich
I bought a 1.5dci 5door Expression in April, and up to now NO PROBLEMS, It was the first diesel car I have driven, and after the intial differences to the petrol engines, I find it GREAT, Turbo took a little getting used to but after the first few weeks and slightly adjusting my driving habits, it is greatand would recomend it to anyone that wants cheap motoring,I am getting on average 59plus to the gallon, and it is certainly faster than the 1.5 petrol car that I changed, so go ahead Rich, and I hope you have as much pleasure with your new car that I am having with mine. Let me know how it goes!!

PS Would also recomend Neath Car Sales if you live antwhere near, I have dealt with them previously when I lived in Neath, and they gave me excellent service, albeit that it was a few years ago, but it is woth a try!
regards
Margaret

Other half has the 86 in her Modus and it's a corking engine. If possible go for the 106 to allow for the extra weight of the Meg, plus you get the 6 speed box iirc but if not the 86 should be okay.

I have an 04 1.5 dCi. A few silly electrical problems but generally an excellent car. Later ones had some of these silly problems sorted out, such as the window regulators.

Good car, worth buying.

I have a 1.5dCi 100 which is great. Good performance and economy and quite refined. I've had a few niggling problems with it but nothing major. Hands free has been a pain in the ass, and I've had a collapsed top engine mounting that casued one or two issues, but that's about it really.

The wife has just bought a 56plate Clio 1.5dCi 86 which is also fantastic. The build quality is absolutely fantastic, and the new Euro IV engines are much more refined than the older Euro III.

If you can afford it go for the dCi 106 as the Megane is quite a heavy car, but the dCi 86 is also very peppy (well it is in the Clio anyway!)

Hi,

I have just chucked my sports tourer 1.9 DCI in for a 1.5 106 hatch. Havent had the oppertunity to take it down the road to give it a good seeing to due to a back injury.
I was abit apprehensive about the the engine size drop but at only 14 BHP less than the 1.9 I was very impressed with the way it went. Wife loves it! what would she know, better suited behind a Tescos shopping trolley! Idont think you wil go wrong I am totally converted -diesel now they are almost as quick as petrols and have come a long way from being the dirty old man of the road.

My Dci 106 has done 9000 miles now and I have to say it's a cracking engine, the performance is amazing considering the economy figures and it just seems to get better in both regards as the miles go on.

Bigfish - there is an electronic torque limiter in place for the 1st 3700 miles (6000km), it will be noticably quicker in the midrange once you get over that mileage.
