I fancy a 2.0 VVT

Postby Woody Woo » Fri Jan 26, 2007 4:33 pm

Hello,

Has anyone got any experience or opinions on the 2.0 VVT petrol Megane?

Refinement? Reliability? Economy? Ease of routine items such as cambelts?

Am I right they come with a six speed gearbox?

And which model comes with leather?

Thanks very much

Woody Woo

I have a 2.0l Dynamique.

I've only had it since November but done 4 or 5k in that time.

It's a quiet engine. Smooth and refined an overtaking is a breeze. It pulls very strongly in all gears. And yes it has 6 of them. Only thing i'm not so keen on is Economy tho I do have a lead foot.

My best tank was about 37mpg which ain't bad but usually it's more 30-33 and around town or stick your foot down it's in the low 20's.

Love mine tho. For insurance group 8 with strong performance it's cheap speed really.

Any questions feel free to PM me or something

Part leather is standard on the Privilege, with full leather a cost option. IIRC full leather is also available on the Dynamique, but don't think you can have it on any other version. In any case I'm not sure the 2.0 VVT is available in a lower trim than dynamique :?:

Cost wise ( and Insurance) this looks a better option than the GT..I didn't realise they still did the 2L ? :?

Hi, I think the GT is more to insure [goup 10] than the 2VVT as it's more powerfull and more expensive [£1200] but on the other hand it's 20 BHP more and slightly better on fuel, Very slightly!!!
Going for the diesel myself as it is much more economical, 52.3mpg as aposed to 35.3, makes alot more torque 340 NM as against 191 NM,, it's also in a lower road tax band,, £110 for 12 months I think.

So it seems like everything else in life, the more you pay the more you get!!!!

Thanks for all the replies. Very useful.
I am not too bothered about the economy, I only do 9K a year so the difference between 30MPG and 50MPG doesn't bother me too much.

As much as I like my dCi I am concerned about the longer term repair costs of any modern common rail diesel. Mine has so far been 100% reliable but now it's out of warranty any bills are mine :(

I must have full leather though.

What is it like at 80MPH in 6th gear? What sort of RPM is it doing and is it nice and refined at that speed?

Thanks very much

WW

Not sure about 80 but at 90 it's around 3700rpm and is still quiet and smooth and still pulls really well as well

I don't want a 225 - the ride will be too hard and I would be worried about it getting stolen or vandalised. I might look at the 165 but I prefer the conventional 2.0 VVT as it's understated but still quite fast.

Does the 2.0 suffer from dephaser problems?

Thanks for that.

All I've got to do is find a nice ex demonstrator.

We shall then have three Renaults. Better make sure my AA is up to date :D

Only joking, my Renaults have been very good.

225's are more expensive to run. The ride in the FF are not that hard. Not much difference to be honest. As for the likely hood of getting nicked, its just the same as any other car. Just don't leave the keys on show !!!
